5 Things We Wouldn't Have Without Immigrants
Zoe has curlfriends all over and loves to highlight their accomplishments. June is immigrant heritage month so Zoe is emphasizing the inventions Americans would not have if it weren’t for immigrants.
ATM’s
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) were created by Luther George Simjian. Luther was an Armenian-American who eventually settled in New Haven, Connecticut after living in Aintab, Syria, Beirut and France.
Airplanes
In 1906, Brasilian inventor Alberto Santos-Dumont flew his own model of the airplane. Thanks to Alberto we’re able to enjoy vacations around the world. (link to vacation blog)

Jeans
German immigrant Levi Strauss invented blue jeans in 1873. In 1953, Levi moved to California to open his own dry goods business. By 1934, Levi introduced the first jeans for women. Zoe’s a fashionista and loves to pair jeans with some of her cute looks.
Pens
László József Bíró was a Hungarian-Argentine inventor who patented the first ballpoint pen. Zoe can send letters all over the world to her curlfriends.

Youtube
Co-founders Steve Chen and Jawed Karim created Youtube. Steve is Taiwanese-American and Jawed is a German immigrant. If they didn't make Youtube Zoe wouldn’t be able to post her fun hair tutorials for all of her curlfriends.
There are many more inventions and contributions immigrants have given to America. Healthy Roots Dolls believes representation matters for all people and how important it is for storybooks and toys to celebrate the beauty of our diversity. We appreciate the contributions and how their stories and inventions have helped us all.
